Seascale School Visit NSG and LLWR
On the 8th of June, we were delighted to co-host Seascale School’s Year 3 class for an afternoon of educational and fun activities at the Low Level Waste Repository with our partners LLW Repository Ltd, who we are currently working in collaboration with to decontaminate and demolish a number of the site’s legacy facilities.
The afternoon began with a short presentation by a representative from LLWR, who explained the type of work that goes on at the site and what can be done to reduce waste. This was followed by a mini challenge, in which the children had to work together to compact waste into a cardboard box.

NSG’s Decommissioning Manager Gareth Wilson then gave an interactive presentation on working conditions and the PPE used on site. Following this, the children asked some interesting questions of their own and tried on some of the PPE, giving them an appreciation of the arduous but necessary working conditions on the site.

The final part of the afternoon involved a bus tour of the site, which gave the children a unique opportunity to see the site’s facilities up close and further their newfound understanding of waste management and decommissioning.
The event, which followed on from our support of the school through the Centre for Leadership Performance’s Bright Stars programme earlier this year, was a great success and we look forward to supporting the school again in the near future.
