NSG attend WiN UK Annual Conference 2026

Recently Michelle Waller, Wendi Barnes, Esme Ross, and Ellen Winstanley represented NSG at the Women in Nuclear (WiN) UK Annual Conference 2026 in Birmingham on the 12th May.

The event brought together professionals from across the UK nuclear industry for a day of networking, collaboration, and inspiring discussions focused on the future of the sector.

With the theme ‘Positively Nuclear: Powering Tomorrow’, the conference explored innovation within the nuclear industry while providing valuable insights from industry leaders. The agenda featured a packed programme of keynote speakers, panel discussions, and interactive networking opportunities, with attendees from a wide range of business areas across the nuclear sector.

Topics throughout the day included the future role of AI within the industry, the importance of fearless leadership, and ways the sector can continue to evolve and improve.

Speaking about the conference, Esme Ross, NSG Business Development Manager said:

“After such a brilliant global conference last year, WiN UK had high expectations to meet, but this year’s event more than delivered, offering a day that was both engaging and genuinely valuable. The strong emphasis on allyship, collaboration, future skills, and cross-industry partnerships clearly highlighted where organisations are seeking support and alignment as the industry competes for talent and continues to evolve. The interactive icebreakers and structured networking created the ideal environment to build relationships and spark meaningful conversations around potential collaboration. Overall, it was an inspiring and impactful event, striking a perfect balance between thought-provoking content and tangible opportunities for both personal growth and business development.”

Wendi Barnes, NSG Head of People and Integration reflected on her experience, saying:

“Attending the 2026 WiN event was an inspiring experience, bringing together women (and men) from across the industry to share perspectives on leadership and career development. The talent and experience in the room was phenomenal. The agenda was packed with engaging speakers and panel discussions, covering a wide range of interesting topics and I was particularly impressed with the confidence shown by the younger generation of engineers (and future leaders). There were also some powerful reflections on the importance of being more fearless in our careers and how we can all be braver in the choices we make. Overall, it was an insightful and energising event, with plenty of valuable takeaways.”

Michelle Waller, NSG People Development Advisor also commented:

“After hearing so much about last year’s conference, I had big expectations for this year’s event, and it didn’t disappoint. There were so many inspirational individuals, focussing on the key elements of driving business forward through creating strong relationships, solid foundations, leadership and focussing on all parts of the career journey. I’ve returned from the event with lots of ideas around how we can influence and inspire some meaningful change in the business when it comes to how we develop our people at all levels.”

Finally, Ellen Winstanley, NSG Senior Consultant said:

“The wide range of talks on offer were inspiring and had quite a few useful pointers for everyone to take back to our own workplaces. I particularly enjoyed the talk around the role of AI and how that could impact the industry in the future, as well as the speeches from Ed Milliband, Dame Kelly Holmes, and Amanda Collier from the last series of the Traitors (sounds unexpected, but she had a lot to say about being brave in her career within the police).”

NSG would like to thank WiN UK and everyone involved in organising such a fantastic event.
