As part of our Social Value and Sustainability Strategy, we recently made a sizeable donation to the Sierra Leone Education and Development Trust. The UK-registered charity makes grants to pay the secondary school costs of the brightest poor children from schools in Mahera, Shenge, Bonthe, Kroo Bay and Foredugu. These grants fund school uniforms, shoes, school bags, textbooks, exam fees and extra lessons prior to exams, as well as solar lights for evening study, tables, chairs, mattresses and mosquito nets to prevent malaria. The charity also helps disabled children and young people with equipment such as mobility carts, wheelchairs and bicycles so they can attend school and have more personal freedom.
